What Is LED Light Therapy?
LED Light Therapy is a breakthrough technology based on important research by NASA showing that certain frequencies of light significantly increase new tissue growth, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, also can stimulate collagen production.
As LED activates skin cells with pulses of low level – non-thermal light energy, the cell converts light energy into fuel (how it works is much like photosynthesis) in turn stimulating the cells to produce proteins and lipids essential for building and repairing the skin. It does not use heat or any kinds of “invasive” process. It triggers the body to convert light energy into cell energy without thermal heat.
LED Light Therapy can provide the skin cells with the energy to produce more collagen and heal faster, thus it makes sense that it would also be able to fix minor damage.
The Benefit of LED Light Therapy?
- LED Light therapy is effective for skin rejuvenation, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne and problem skin, sensitive and inflammatory conditions such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis and post treatment healing and scars.
- LED Light Therapy is clinically proven to be safe for all skin types and effective in the treatment of a wide range of skin conditions. It is a gentle, heat free treatment that does not contain harmful ultraviolet wavelengths and therefore cannot damage skin tissue.
How Does LED Light Therapy Works?
The skin has the ability to absorb light and use it as a source of energy to stimulate a healing response. LED therapy uses specific colour wavelengths of light that penetrate the skin at varying depths. The light energizes cells to produce collagen, improve elasticity and increase blood circulation and oxygen flow while releasing toxins. This in turn stimulates the anti-ageing process, helps to normalize cellular imbalances, and improves skin tone and clarity. It is a natural biochemical reaction similar to that of plant photosynthesis, which triggers the body to convert light energy to cell energy. LED Light therapy is recognized medically and is a clinically proven treatment. Laboratory studies have shown that when skin is exposed to LED Light wavelengths, skin cells regenerate themselves.
Downtime
There is no downtime or risk of unwanted side effects.
What the different lights on our LED can be used for?
- Red light for skin rejuvenation increases collagen production.
- Blue light for acne by targeting bacteria that causes acne.
- Purple light is the combination of red light and blue light, gives benefits of both lights combined.
- Yellow light energizing skin, improves skin immunity and gives radiance and glow.
- Green light calming and soothing effect on the skin.
- Orange light improves skin’s metabolism and detoxifying for the skin.
- Radium light penetrates deeply into the skin which is great for pigmentation improves skin tone.
Post Treatment Care
It is important to take care of the treated area immediately following LED/PDT, as it will be sensitive to UV rays. This includes avoiding all sun exposure for the first 48 hours, and avoiding extended periods of direct sunlight without adequate protection (sunscreen, hat, coverage) for about two weeks. Our staff will explain these precautions in detail with you at your appointment.
What To Expect
It is normal to experience redness, swelling or tingling for about 48 hours after your PDT session. Crusting, darkening or lightening of the skin may also occur. Normally these effects pass in 1-3 days, and improve markedly within a week. Within four weeks of treatment you should see no such signs at all, but you will notice much improved appearance of your skin – it will look more natural, youthful and vibrant. Reduction of severe acne (acne vulgaris) by decreased oil production and bacteria that causes acne. More than one session may be necessary for best results. The doctor will determine with you how many sessions you may require. Usually this is 1-5 treatments, spaced 2-4 weeks apart.
