A therapist's hands pressing the shoulder of a guest lying under a white towel

Tui Na Shiatsu

Duration
90 minutes
Pressure
Medium to firm, adjustable
Available at
Legian, Ubud, Canggu

Your visit

Steady, rhythmic kneading warms your muscles, then thumbs and palms press into the places that hold tension, with stretches where you feel stiff.

Your therapist begins with a quiet chat about the pressure you like, any tight spots, and how you feel about warmth. Adjust anything at any point. This time is yours.

They will ask, too, how freely your joints move.

Some points can feel tender, but none should cause sharp pain.

Aftercare

  • Drink water before and after, and go easy on alcohol either side.
  • Take a moment to sit up slowly before you stand.

Good to know

Before your visit

  • Tell your therapist about injuries, surgery, sensitive areas and anything you would like avoided.
  • Say if you are pregnant or have a medical condition, and we check the massage suits you.
  • Do not arrive straight after a heavy meal.
  • Ask for more or less pressure at any point.

Two traditions, one pair of hands

Your therapist’s thumbs, fingers and palms work across your body in a steady rhythm, kneading and rolling to warm your muscles. Then they press into the points that hold tension.

The tightest places are given more time, and where you feel stiff, stretches and joint movements follow.
