A medical assessment
Available at

Your visit

  1. Over refreshments, we sit with you and ask about your health, medicines and allergies.

  2. A small cannula, a thin, flexible tube, usually sits in your arm, and the bag empties slowly while you settle into a comfortable chair.

  3. We keep an eye on you throughout, then take the cannula out.

Aftercare

  • Expect a small dressing on your arm, and a little tenderness or bruising that passes.
  • Drink water afterwards and keep the rest of the day easy.
  • Contact us if anything unexpected develops afterwards.

You may feel better hydrated the same day or within 24 hours, though some people notice little change. Results vary, and we agree the gap between drips together.

Irritation or bleeding at the vein can follow, and so can dizziness or nausea. Infection, an allergy or a fluid problem is rarer.

Good to know

Before your visit

  • Tell us what you take, including supplements, and about any kidney or heart condition.
  • Say if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Say if you are having cancer treatment or take blood thinners.
  • Eat something and drink water before you come.
  • Vitamins A, D and E can build up, and too much D can raise calcium dangerously.
  • Retinol is a form of vitamin A, and in pregnancy too much can harm the baby.
  • Please mention isotretinoin or another retinoid, and any glucose testing, as vitamin C can skew results.

Chosen with immunity in mind

Saline is the base, and it hydrates you. The 5,000 mg of vitamin C has a part in normal immune function and in making collagen, and it is an antioxidant too.

Vitamins A, D and E all matter for immunity, while the B vitamins work on energy, nerves and new cells.
