A smooth gel that holds shape
Juvéderm® Voluma® is a gel of cross-linked hyaluronic acid, made with VYCROSS® technology. Your body makes hyaluronic acid too. It draws in water and gives the skin its structure and volume.
Beneath the skin, the gel stands in for lost volume and gives the face shape and projection. Before adding any back, your doctor looks for where the volume has gone, weighing your cheeks against your chin and temples.
Juvéderm gave us its Craft Extraordinary award for lower-face work in 2024, at the Aesthetic Summit.

Your visit
Your doctor cleans and marks each area, then places the gel with a fine needle or cannula. You feel brief pressure or mild discomfort. You walk out with the volume already in place.
- Tell your doctor what you take, including blood thinners and aspirin.
- Mention any botulinum toxin or filler treatment in the last four months.
- Avoid alcohol the day before, as it can increase bruising.
- Arrive with clean skin and little makeup on the treatment area.
- Do not rub, press or massage the treated area for the rest of the day.
- No strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms or intense heat for 24 to 48 hours.
- Delay facials and facial massage until your doctor says.
- Contact us if anything unexpected develops afterwards.
- Mention any filler already in the area, temporary or not.
- Keep taking prescribed medication unless the doctor who prescribed it says otherwise.
- Avoid booking close to dental work, vaccinations, laser treatment or chemical peels.
- Afterwards, skip makeup for about 12 hours, and dental work or facial treatments for a fortnight.
Is it right for you?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have an active skin infection, certain allergies or some medical conditions, wait.
Results
Tenderness, redness, firmness or bruising can last several days. Swelling can make the area look fuller at first, and it settles over one to two weeks, when your doctor reviews the result and considers any adjustment. One session is usually enough.
With optimal treatment, Voluma® lasts up to two years in the cheeks, a year in the chin and 13 months in the temples. Results vary from face to face.
Cocoon is a licensed medical clinic with eight doctors, including a dermatologist, and you meet yours before anything is booked.
Questions people ask
The gel contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, to make the injections more comfortable. Your doctor can also apply a numbing cream first when appropriate.
That depends on your facial anatomy, how much volume you have lost and the result you want, so your doctor plans the amount with you at the consultation.
It is meant for deeper volume in the face. Another Juvéderm® product may suit the lips better.
Usually it can, with hyaluronidase. Your doctor first checks that this is medically appropriate, then dissolves it.
