Why Regular Vitamin Intake Is Important To Your Body
Some essential info about vitamins
Vitamins are organic substances that are needed for normal cell functions, growth and development. There are 13 essential vitamins that are classified into two big groups: fat-soluble and water-soluble, referring to where they are stored in the body. Fat-soluble vitamins – A, D, E and K – are stored for up to six months in the fat cells, while the water-soluble ones circulate through the blood – they include all B vitamins (B6, B12, riboflavin, thiamine, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin and folate) and vitamin C. The water-soluble vitamins can’t be stored in the body, they are getting absorbed directly by cells or when in excess, they will be flushed out of the system (yes, when you are visiting the bathroom). This is why it is extremely important that you replenish them regularly.
Their function
All 13 vitamins have a unique function but they also co-operate to create optimal health to the body.
Vitamin A supports immune system, skin, bones and teeth and promotes healthy eyesight.
Vitamin C is needed for absorbing the mineral iron and to support healthy tissue development.
Vitamin D contributes to healthy bones, as well as to the body’s defense system.
Vitamin E is a basic facilitator of the use of vitamin K, which supports blood clotting and the formation of red blood cells.
The eight B vitamins are responsible for a healthy metabolism, brain function, proper heart functions, hormone productions and for the functioning of the central nervous system.
Get enough
A diet that is rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, lentils and fish is a good way to get the essential vitamins that you need. Yet if your diet doesn’t have that much variety, it is important to get supplements and provide your body with an optimal synergy of the much needed vitamins.
If you are unsure if you are consuming the proper amount of vitamins, please consult with your doctor.
