• Collagen Induction Therapy - Dermapen

Dermapen

Collagen Induction Therapy: Dermapen is a great anti-aging, stretch mark and pigmentation solution, which is incredibly effective even for hormonal pigmentation, old stretch-marks, and some of the hardest skin issues to treat. Dermapen is best used together with other treatments, such as PRP, or Glycolic or Jessner peel to create visible results.

How Collagen Induction Therapy with Dermapen works:

Dermapen is a natural way to improve the appearance of the skin and reverse the signs of aging. The treatment works on:

  • Acne scars
  • Pigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Wrinkles
  • Scarring
  • Stretch marks

Dermapen therapy provides advanced skin micro-surgical needling, a procedure that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, creating smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin.

The principle behind the Dermapen is stimulating cell renewal and new collagen, without damaging the epidermis. The treatment uses 13 very fine needles designed to achieve a ‘controlled injury’ to the skin without damage. The needles create micro-channels into the deeper skin layers resulting in an increased absorption of the active ingredients into the skin from products.

As the skin repairs itself, new collagen is deposited in the papillary dermis, plumping the skin from underneath, to smooth out wrinkles fine lines and indented scars. The skins strength, collagen and elastin are improved for a rejuvenated, smooth and youthful complexion.

Regular treatments result in a firmer, smoother and more youthful skin.

Dermapen Treatment

Dermapen therapy utilises sterile single-use devices.

We will use a Dermapen to produce thousands of microscopic needle-columns in the skin. The column will close rapidly enabling the skin to recover quickly – often in the same day.

Does Dermapen hurt?

We use a topical anaesthetic to numb the skin making the procedure comfortable.

What results can I expect of Dermapen?

After a Dermapen therapy treatment your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface in the dermis. This takes time as new collagen and elastin is formed, new skin cells are regenerated and blood supply is enhanced. It can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and this will continue over the following months, providing you with gradual and long lasting enhancement.

How many treatments are recommended with Dermapen?

We normally recommend that your Dermapen therapy consists of a series of three treatments with approximately 6 weeks between them. In the treatment of acne scars and other types of scarring it may be necessary that the client has up to 5 treatments.

Are there any side effects with Dermapen?

Immediately after the treatment yours skin will look as though you have moderate sunburn and it may feel warm and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after 1 to 2 hours and will normally recover within the same day with only slight redness the following day. There are other minor possible side effects and these will be discussed at your consultation.

Should anyone avoid this treatments?

The treatment should be avoided by anyone:

  • with skin cancer
  • who is allergic to local anaesthetic
  • on chemotherapy, radiotherapy or high doses of corticosteroids
  • with a history of keloid scars

Aftercare Instructions

Dermapen microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that promotes skin rejuvenation by stimulating collagen production. To ensure optimal results and support the healing process, please adhere to the following aftercare instructions:

Immediate Post-Treatment Care:

  • Skin Sensation: It’s normal for your skin to appear red or pink, similar to a moderate sunburn, and feel warm and tighter than usual. This typically subsides within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Cleansing: A few hours after the treatment, gently cleanse your face with tepid water to remove any residual blood and to improve the skin’s appearance. Use a soothing cleanser or face wash, avoiding exfoliating products or those with scrubbing beads until your skin has healed.
  • Hydration: Your skin may feel drier than normal. To restore its balance, apply a hydrating product containing hyaluronic acid, which helps retain moisture and supports healing.
  • Sun Protection: After microneedling, your skin is more sensitive to sunlight. Apply a broad-spectrum, chemical-free sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily, even if you’re not planning to be outdoors. This protects against photosensitivity, which can lead to discoloration and brown spots.

Activities and Products to Avoid:

  • Sun Exposure: Avoid direct sunlight and refrain from using tanning beds for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
  • Heat and Sweat: Do not engage in strenuous activities that cause excessive sweating, such as intense workouts, saunas, or hot tubs, for the first 24 hours.
  • Skin Care Products: Steer clear of alcohol-based toners and products containing active ingredients like retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), and Vitamin C in low pH formulas for at least 48 hours, as they can irritate the skin.
  • Makeup Application: It’s recommended to avoid applying makeup for at least 12 hours after the procedure. If necessary, use breathable, mineral-based makeup and apply it gently without using brush applicators to minimize the risk of irritation.

Lifestyle Considerations:

  • Smoking: Refrain from smoking after the treatment, as it can impede the healing process, contribute to premature aging, and diminish the effectiveness of the procedure.
  • Stress Management: High stress levels can lead to acne breakouts and dull, aged-looking skin. Engage in relaxation techniques to support your skin’s recovery and maintain the benefits of the treatment.

Additional Recommendations:

  • Hydration: Maintain adequate hydration by drinking plenty of water, which supports the skin’s healing process.
  • Avoid Picking or Scratching: Do not pick, scratch, or exfoliate the treated skin, as this can cause irritation or scarring.
  • Follow-Up Treatments: Depending on your skin’s condition and desired results, multiple sessions may be recommended. Your clinician will advise on the appropriate treatment plan tailored to your needs.
