At a glance
Follicular Unit Extraction moves individual hair follicles from a donor area to thinning or balding areas, creating a natural-looking hairline. It is a minimally invasive technique, with no linear scar and a comfortable recovery. Your doctor designs the hairline with you and explains the full timeline, so you know what to expect as new growth comes in over the following months.

One follicle at a time
Time in clinicA full day, about 8 AM to 7 PM

Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE, is surgery, though minimally invasive. Each follicle is taken out on its own through a small circular opening.
This means no strip of scalp is removed and no long scar is left, only tiny round scars.
Your doctor plans your new hairline first, and where you need more density.
On the day, at least five of our medical team, doctors and nurses, work together. Tiny punches take out each follicle, and fine forceps set every graft at the angle and direction of the hair around it.
On the day
Your doctor prepares the donor area and gives you a local anaesthetic, then takes out the follicles and places each graft as planned. More grafts take longer.
Most people go back to normal activities the next day, with no large incisions or heavy bandages.
Where it can be used
- Up to 1,500 graftsFor smaller areas, early thinning or the hairline
- Up to 3,000 graftsFor moderate loss, with wider coverage and density
- Up to 5,000 graftsFor extensive loss, if your donor area allows
- Eyebrow transplantTo fill in or reshape sparse brows
- Beard transplantFor a sparse or uneven beard, moustache or sideburns, adding density or definition

Aftercare
DowntimeScabs and redness at first
Until it settles
- Afterwards, leave the grafts alone, let scabs loosen as you wash, and keep every follow-up visit.
- Avoid hard exercise, swimming, saunas and steam rooms until cleared, and keep the sun off your scalp.
Results
Results from3 to 6 months
For the first days you will have small scabs and some redness. New hair then shows from three to six months, fine and uneven to begin with.
It fills in over the following months, and your doctor will tell you when to expect the full result.
Transplanted hair tends to resist pattern hair loss, though the hair around it can keep thinning. Results vary, and your doctor talks you through what to expect for your scalp.

Questions people ask
Your doctor weighs your hair loss and the coverage you would like against what your donor area can spare. Taking too many can leave it visibly thin for good.
Many hairs shed at two to four weeks, which can feel unsettling. It is part of the cycle, and it does not by itself mean the follicle is lost.
Bleeding, infection, swelling, temporary numbness, folliculitis, scarring and poor graft growth are possible. A poorly planned hairline or placement can look unnatural.
We only do it at Legian. Book ahead and our driver will collect you from Kuta, Legian, Seminyak or Kerobokan, and take you back after the last graft.
