Juvederm® Voluma®

During the aging process, the skin starts sagging due to the loss of hyaluronic acid that our skin naturally contains. Cheeks are the most affected areas as their volume decreases over time, hence the face loses contour. Not long ago, the only solution for this problem was a surgery, but then an FDA approved gel injection appeared and changed the game – it is called Juvederm Voluma®.

What is Juvederm® Voluma®?

Juvederm Voluma® is a filler that efficiently lifts the overlying skin and lessen the appearance of deeper creases. It is a hyaluronic acid filler from the makers of Juvederm® and Botox and is proven to restore age-related volume loss in the area of the cheeks, all apex, apple and hollow. While most fillers only add some volume into skin layers that are close to the surface, Voluma® treats the problem from the roots and returns the contour of the area while improving appearance and make cheeks look plumper.

How long does it last?

All patients are different and the necessary number of treatments depends on the amount of volume loss. Some may benefit from a few; some may need more to achieve progress. After immediate visible results, Voluma® lasts up to two years thanks to the cross-linked HA chains through the Vycross process, which makes it one of the most effective and long-lasting HA fillers on the market.

Why is it effective?

Juvederm Voluma® utilizes a special formula made of hyaluronic acid that consists of sugars also found in the skin. As soon as this formula gets injected into the treatment area, these sugars start to boost collagen production instantly. Thanks to this, a smooth and crease-free, natural and long-lasting appearance is granted.

What are the side effects?

Side effects are minimal, but similar to other filler, Voluma® also has a few. Patients can experience tenderness, swelling or bruising which can be minimized by avoiding medications and fish oil, but all usually disappear within a week. There is no downtime, patients can return to their normal activities right after the treatment.

Is Juvederm Voluma® treatment painful?

Patients usually experience minimal or mild discomfort during the treatment. Voluma® is formulated with lidocaine to enhance comfort, but ice is sometimes used in some cases.

Dermal Fillers Aftercare: Key Tips

Protect Your Skin
Avoid sun exposure by wearing SPF 40+ daily, even indoors. Say no to smoking, which accelerates aging, and manage stress to maintain clear, vibrant skin.

Initial Reactions
Redness, tenderness, and swelling are normal after treatment and may last 1–2 weeks, especially for lips. Ice packs can help reduce swelling; apply for 15-20 minutes after treatment. Avoid touching the area for 6 hours, after which you may apply light makeup.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures
Until redness and swelling subside, avoid hot environments (sunbathing, saunas) and extreme cold, which can worsen the treated area.

Bruising & Swelling Management
Refrain from alcohol, strenuous exercise, or taking blood-thinning medications like aspirin, which can increase bruising. Arnica cream can help alleviate bruising.

Additional Skin Care
For optimal results, consider using medical-grade skincare products like Vitamin C serums and Tretonoin (Retin-A) for enhanced skin strength and texture. Always wear sunscreen and reapply every 2 hours if exposed to sunlight.
