The Experience

Salt Room Halotherapy

Slow down and breathe naturally in Cocoon’s Himalayan salt room in Bali. During this relaxing wellness treatment, a fine, dry salt aerosol is dispersed through the room to recreate elements of a natural salt-cave environment.

Your 45-minute halotherapy session requires no special clothing or preparation. Simply relax, read, meditate or enjoy a quiet moment away from the outside world.

The Therapy

How It Works

Halotherapy, also known as dry salt therapy, recreates aspects of the microclimate found inside a natural salt cave.

During your session, a halogenerator disperses very fine particles of dry sodium chloride into the air. As you breathe normally, some of these particles enter the upper and lower airways.

It has been proposed that dry salt may draw moisture into airway secretions, which could temporarily help loosen mucus. However, the precise effects and ideal treatment protocols have not been firmly established.

The room’s Himalayan salt walls create a warm and calming atmosphere. The decorative salt blocks are separate from the dry salt aerosol produced for halotherapy and should not be described as supplying more than 80 minerals directly to the body.

Your Experience

What to Expect

Your visit begins with a short consultation to discuss your health, respiratory concerns and reason for booking.

You enter the salt room fully clothed and relax in a comfortable chair. No mask, tube or physical treatment is involved. Simply breathe normally while the dry salt aerosol circulates through the room.

An adult session lasts approximately 45 minutes. You can meditate, read, work quietly or simply close your eyes and relax.

You may notice a mild salty taste or a temporary tickle in the throat. Some people cough during or after the session as airway secretions move. Tell the team if you experience tightness in the chest, wheezing, dizziness or difficulty breathing.

There is generally no downtime, and you can continue your usual activities afterwards.

Important Considerations

Salt room halotherapy is a complementary wellness experience. It should not replace prescribed medication or medical care for asthma, allergies, sinusitis, bronchitis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, eczema, psoriasis, depression or another health condition.

Please seek medical advice before booking if you have asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease or another ongoing respiratory or medical condition.

Salt aerosol may temporarily increase coughing or irritate sensitive airways. Leave the room and seek assistance if you develop chest tightness, wheezing, dizziness or breathing difficulties.

Halotherapy is not suitable during an acute asthma attack or other breathing emergency. Use your prescribed medication and seek appropriate medical care.

The American Lung Association notes that there is currently insufficient evidence to create clinical guidelines for salt therapy. It recommends discussing halotherapy with your doctor, particularly if you have an obstructive lung condition.
