Masseter Botox
Relax Overactive Masseter Muscles for a Softer, More Refined Lower Face.
The Experience
Masseter Botox
Masseter Botox Bali is a personalised injectable treatment for enlarged or overactive jaw muscles. It may help reduce jaw clenching and muscular tension while gradually creating a softer, more balanced lower-face contour.
At Cocoon Medical Spa Bali, our doctors use genuine Botox® by Allergan. Every treatment begins with an assessment of your facial anatomy, masseter strength, bite, symptoms and aesthetic goals.

The Treatment
How It Works
The masseters are powerful chewing muscles located on both sides of the jaw. Genetics, habitual clenching, teeth grinding and repeated muscle activity can cause them to become stronger or more prominent.
During Masseter Botox treatment, small amounts of Botox® are injected directly into selected points within these muscles. Botox® temporarily reduces the nerve signals that cause strong muscle contractions.
The masseters continue to function, but their activity and strength are reduced. This may help ease tension associated with clenching or grinding. When enlarged masseters contribute to facial width, reduced activity can also allow the muscles to become less prominent over time.
Functional changes and cosmetic jawline slimming develop at different speeds. Reduced tension may be noticed first, while changes in facial contour appear gradually as the muscle decreases in size.

Your Appointment
What to Expect
Your appointment begins with a consultation. Your doctor will discuss whether your main concern is jawline width, clenching, grinding, muscular tension or a combination of these.
You will be asked to clench and relax your jaw while the doctor examines and feels the masseter muscles. This helps identify their size, strength, position and symmetry.
The skin is cleaned before Botox® is injected into carefully selected points on each side of the jaw. The dosage may differ between sides if one masseter is larger or stronger.
The injections are usually brief and feel like small pinches. The complete appointment takes longer because it includes consultation, assessment, preparation and aftercare guidance.
Small bumps, redness or tenderness may appear around the injection points but generally settle quickly.

Preparing for Your Visit
Before Your Treatment
Tell your doctor about all medical conditions, allergies, medication and supplements. You should also disclose any botulinum toxin treatment received within the previous four months, including the product, dosage and areas treated.
Mention blood-thinning medication, aspirin-like products, injected antibiotics, muscle relaxants, sleeping medication and allergy or cold medicines. Do not stop prescribed medication unless advised by the prescribing doctor.
Tell your doctor if you have:
- Difficulty swallowing or chewing
- Facial or jaw muscle weakness
- Previous facial or jaw surgery
- A dental infection or planned dental procedure
- Temporomandibular joint problems
- An uneven bite
- A neuromuscular condition
- Previous problems following botulinum toxin treatment
Avoid alcohol before the appointment where possible, as it may increase the likelihood of bruising.
What You May Notice
Your Results
Reduced jaw tension or clenching may become noticeable within the first one to two weeks. Responses vary, and Botox® does not address every cause of jaw pain or teeth grinding.
Facial slimming takes longer because the masseter muscle gradually becomes less prominent. Initial contour changes may appear after four to six weeks, with the most noticeable result often developing after two to three months.
Results generally last around three to six months. The duration depends on the dosage, muscle strength, metabolism, severity of clenching and individual response.
As muscle activity returns, tension or facial width may gradually increase again. Your doctor can advise when another assessment is appropriate.

After Your Appointment
Aftercare
Follow the personalised instructions provided by your doctor. You will generally be advised to:
- Avoid rubbing or massaging the injected areas
- Avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of the day
- Avoid saunas and intense heat immediately afterwards

- Contact the clinic if you experience unexpected symptoms
Temporary tenderness, swelling, redness or bruising may occur. Mild changes in chewing strength can also be noticed as the masseters begin to relax.
Good to Know
Important Considerations
Masseter Botox requires a careful assessment of your jaw muscles, facial proportions and treatment goals. It may not be suitable for every type of wide or square jaw, particularly when the facial shape is mainly caused by bone structure.
Temporary tenderness, bruising or changes in chewing strength may occur while the muscles adjust. Results develop gradually and can alter the lower-face shape, so a personalised dose is important.
Tell your doctor if you have dental problems, difficulty chewing or swallowing, facial weakness, or previous jaw treatments.
Helpful Information
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about your treatment and what to expect.
Can Masseter Botox slim every type of wide jaw?
No. It works when enlarged masseter muscles contribute to facial width. It will not change a wide jaw caused mainly by bone structure, fat distribution or loose skin.
Can it help with teeth grinding?
It may reduce the strength of masseter contractions associated with clenching or grinding. However, it does not remove the underlying cause or protect damaged teeth, so dental care may still be required.
When will my jawline look slimmer?
Initial changes may appear after four to six weeks. The most noticeable jawline slimming often develops after two to three months.
Will Masseter Botox affect chewing?
Temporary chewing weakness or fatigue can occur, particularly with firm or chewy foods. Your doctor will select the dosage carefully to reduce this risk.
Will the result look natural?
The change develops gradually as the masseter muscles become less prominent. Personalised dosing helps maintain balance between the two sides of the face.
How long does Masseter Botox last?
Results usually last around three to six months. Muscle activity and facial width gradually return as the effect wears off.
