The Experience

Botox for Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating, medically known as hyperhidrosis, can affect your clothing, work, social life and confidence—even when you are resting or the weather is cool.

Botox® for excessive sweating temporarily reduces the nerve signals that activate sweat glands in targeted areas. At Cocoon Medical Spa Bali, every treatment begins with a medical consultation to identify the cause of your sweating and create an appropriate treatment plan.

Why You’ll Love It

Benefits

  • Reduces excessive sweating in targeted areas
  • Helps prevent visible underarm sweat marks
  • Improves everyday comfort and confidence
  • Offers a non-surgical treatment option
  • Requires little to no downtime
  • Provides results that can last several months

Sweat glands are activated by chemical signals released from nearby nerves. Botox® temporarily blocks the release of these signals within the treated area, reducing unnecessary sweat production.

The treatment involves a series of small, shallow injections placed across the area where excessive sweating occurs. Only the targeted sweat glands are affected, so the goal is to control excessive sweating without eliminating the body’s normal ability to regulate temperature.

Botox® is specifically indicated for severe primary underarm sweating that has not been adequately managed with topical treatments. Treatment of the hands, feet, face or scalp requires an individual medical assessment and may be considered an off-label use.

Your Appointment

What to Expect

Your appointment begins with a medical consultation. The doctor will ask when and where the sweating occurs, how it affects your daily life and whether you have tried prescription-strength antiperspirants or other treatments.

It is important to determine whether the sweating is primary hyperhidrosis or could be related to medication, hormonal changes or another health condition. New, generalised or night-time sweating may require further medical investigation.

The treatment area is cleaned and may be marked to identify where sweating is most active. A series of small injections is then placed just beneath the skin across the targeted area. The injection stage is usually relatively quick, although your complete appointment includes consultation, assessment and preparation.

Preparing for Your Visit

Before Your Treatment

Avoid shaving or irritating the treatment area for approximately 24 hours beforehand, particularly when treating the underarms. Arrive with clean skin and avoid applying deodorant, antiperspirant, body lotion or fragranced products to the area on the day.

Tell your doctor about all medications and supplements, especially blood-thinning medicines, injected antibiotics and muscle relaxants. Do not discontinue prescribed medication unless advised by the prescribing doctor.

Please also disclose previous botulinum toxin treatment, allergies, neuromuscular conditions and any history of swallowing or breathing difficulties.

You may begin to notice less sweating within several days, with the complete effect generally developing over one to two weeks. The goal is a meaningful reduction in excessive sweating rather than the permanent elimination of all perspiration.

Results vary according to the treatment area, severity of the condition, dose and individual response. As the effect gradually wears off, nerve signalling returns and sweating may increase again. Maintenance treatment can then be discussed with your doctor.

After Your Appointment

Aftercare

Avoid rubbing, massaging or applying firm pressure to the injected area for the remainder of the day. Keep the area clean and avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, hot baths and excessive heat for approximately 24 hours.

Your doctor will provide aftercare appropriate to the treatment area. Contact the clinic if you experience unexpected weakness, increasing pain, signs of infection or another concerning reaction.

Good to Know

Important Considerations

Excessive sweating can sometimes be related to medication, hormonal changes or another health condition. A medical assessment is therefore important, especially if the sweating began suddenly, affects your whole body or regularly occurs at night.

Temporary redness, tenderness or bruising may occur after treatment. Treating the palms can occasionally affect hand strength for a short period, so the risks and benefits differ between treatment areas.

Tell your doctor about your medical conditions, medication and previous botulinum toxin treatments before your appointment.

Helpful Information

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about your treatment and what to expect.

What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating beyond what the body normally requires for temperature control. It may affect one specific area or several parts of the body.

How quickly will Botox reduce sweating?

Some people notice a reduction within several days. The full effect generally develops within one to two weeks, although individual responses vary.

Will Botox stop me sweating completely?

The aim is to significantly reduce excessive sweating in the treated area, not necessarily stop it completely. Untreated sweat glands continue to function normally.

Does treating my underarms affect temperature regulation?

Only the targeted sweat glands are affected. The rest of the body can continue producing sweat, although your doctor must first confirm that the proposed treatment is suitable for you.

Can Botox treat sweaty hands and feet?

Botox® may be considered for the palms or soles following medical assessment. These areas can be more sensitive, and palm treatment carries a risk of temporary hand weakness.

How many units will I need?

The dose depends on the area and clinical assessment. Official prescribing information recommends 50 units per underarm for primary axillary hyperhidrosis, but your doctor will determine the appropriate treatment plan.
