The Therapy
How It Works
Full body red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, exposes the skin to specific, low-intensity wavelengths of red and near-infrared light without the ultraviolet radiation used for tanning.
These wavelengths are absorbed by light-sensitive structures within cells. Researchers believe this may influence mitochondrial activity and cellular signalling. The precise response depends on the device, wavelength, intensity, treatment time and area exposed.
During your full body red light session, you relax on the Cocoon Red Light Infrared Mat while a light panel is positioned above your body. A separate facial panel provides targeted coverage for the face, accompanied by a refreshing nano mist.
Research suggests that certain red-light devices may support aspects of skin appearance and recovery. Results vary, and this treatment should not be presented as regenerating cells, healing injuries or treating skin or hormonal conditions.
Your Experience
What to Expect
Your full body red light therapy appointment begins with a short consultation to check your health, medications, light sensitivity and treatment goals.
You will lie comfortably on the infrared mat while the full-body panel is positioned above you. A separate facial screen and nano mist are used around the face. Protective eyewear should be provided and worn as directed.
The session lasts approximately 30 minutes. You may notice gentle warmth from the equipment, but the light itself should not feel hot or painful.
There is no required recovery period, so you can usually return to your normal activities immediately afterwards.

The recommended frequency of full body red light therapy depends on your goals, skin response and the device protocol. Our team will suggest a personalised schedule following your consultation.
When Benefits May Be Noticed
You may feel relaxed or refreshed after one session, while visible changes in skin appearance generally require a consistent series and cannot be guaranteed.
Good to Know
Important Considerations
Please tell our team if you have a condition that causes sensitivity to light, take photosensitising medication, have skin cancer or a history of cancer in the treatment area, or have an active infection, wound or unexplained skin lesion. You should also let us know if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, have recently undergone an intensive or light-based skin treatment, or experience migraines or discomfort triggered by bright light.
Redness, temporary warmth, dryness, itching or skin sensitivity may occasionally occur. Stop the session and tell the therapist if the light feels painful or causes eye discomfort, dizziness or unusual skin sensations.
Helpful Information
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about your treatment and what to expect.
What is the difference between red and near-infrared light?
Red light works primarily closer to the skin’s surface, while near-infrared wavelengths can travel further into tissue. The precise effect depends on the wavelengths and settings used by the device.
Does red-light therapy tan the skin?
No. Red and near-infrared light do not contain the ultraviolet radiation responsible for tanning and sun damage.
Is the treatment painful?
No. The session should feel comfortable and relaxing. You may experience gentle warmth, but the light should not burn or feel painful.
How often should I have full body red light therapy?
The best frequency depends on your goals and individual response. Some guests choose occasional sessions, while others follow a regular programme recommended by the Cocoon team.
Do I need to wear eye protection?
Yes. Protective eyewear should be worn according to the equipment manufacturer’s instructions, particularly when light is used near the face.
Can I combine it with another Cocoon treatment?
It may be combined with selected Cocoon treatments. The team will advise on the best order and whether combining treatments is appropriate for your skin and wellness goals.
Is there any downtime?
There is generally no downtime. Most guests can continue their day immediately, although temporary warmth or mild redness may occasionally occur.
