THE TREATMENT

How Does Royal Thai Touch Work?

Royal Thai Touch is based on traditional Thai massage, an ancient form of bodywork that combines focused pressure with assisted movement. Unlike an oil massage, it is performed while you remain fully clothed.

Your therapist begins with rhythmic compression and acupressure using the hands, thumbs, elbows, knees and feet. Pressure is applied gradually along different areas of the body to soften tight muscles and prepare them for stretching.

Yoga-inspired movements are then used to gently guide the body through a series of supported stretches. Your therapist may move or position your arms and legs while using their own body weight to create controlled pressure and resistance.

The sequence is adapted to your flexibility, comfort and areas of tension. Traditional Thai massage is also influenced by the concept of energy lines running through the body. Working along these lines is intended to create balance and restore a feeling of energy and flow.

Your Treatment

What to Expect

You will be provided with comfortable, loose-fitting clothing before your treatment. Royal Thai Touch is performed fully clothed, so there is no need to undress and no massage oil is applied.

Your therapist will ask about your flexibility, preferred pressure, injuries and areas of tension. During the massage, different parts of your body will be gently lifted, moved and stretched. Hands, elbows, knees and feet may be used to create controlled pressure.

Some stretches may feel strong, but they should remain comfortable. Let your therapist know if you would like less pressure or a smaller range of movement.

Helpful Information

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about your treatment and what to expect.

Is Royal Thai Touch performed with oil?

No. Traditional Thai massage is performed without oils or lotions. This allows the therapist to use compression and assisted stretching without the hands slipping across the skin.

Do I need to bring suitable clothing?

No. Cocoon provides comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for your treatment. The clothing allows your body to move freely during the assisted stretches.

Do I remain fully clothed?

Yes. You remain fully clothed throughout the massage, so there is no need to undress or use traditional massage draping.

Is Thai massage painful?

Thai massage can feel firm and some stretches may be intense, but it should not cause sharp pain. Your therapist can adjust both the pressure and range of movement.

Do I need to be flexible?

No. You do not need previous yoga experience or a high level of flexibility. Every stretch is adapted to your current range of movement.

How is Thai massage different from an oil massage?

An oil massage usually uses flowing movements directly on the skin. Thai massage is performed clothed and uses compression, acupressure, assisted stretching and yoga-inspired positions.
