Melasma and pigmentation

Not every brown mark suits a holiday session.

Thinking about melasma treatment in Bali, or fading a few sun spots while you are on the island? Start with a diagnosis, then plan around the beach days you have left.

Why it is assessed first

A freckle and a patch of melasma can look alike in the hotel mirror, yet their causes differ, and so does what helps each one. In Legian, the dermatologist asks about your time in the sun, then looks closely at each mark.

Melasma needs particular care. Heat or inflammation can bring it back or darken it, so your doctor weighs the laser against other treatments.

The sun and your result

A tan, even a fake one, moves a laser appointment to another day. If the rest of your trip is beach and pool, your doctor may suggest new skincare and a plan, and no laser yet.

After a laser, keep to the shade, wear SPF 30 or higher every day and swim only once the skin has healed. The laser does not stop new spots.
